In Tally.ERP 9 Accounting Software we can maintain the accounts of Secured and Unsecured Loans taken from Banking sector or other Financing Institutions. If a loan is taken against a security by lodging it at the Lender it is considered as Secured Loan. If no security is loaded at the financer the loan is granted upon a Guarantee of a third party then such loan is considered Unsecured Loan.

In Tally.ERP 9 we can record the Secured and Unsecured Loan transactions using the various Voucher Types available in the Software. And before that we must create the Ledger accounts for the following Accounts.

After we have created the above cited ledger account we can record the loan disbursement transaction in Tally.ERP 9. In order to record the transaction, just open the Receipt Voucher Type from Gateway of Tally.

  1. Credit the Unsecured Loan Account ledger enter the disbursed amount and
  2. Debit the Bank Account in which the loan amount is transferred and enter the amount.

How to Record Life Insurance Maturity amount in Tally.ERP 9?


When a Life Insurance Policy has been matured, the Policy Maturity amount will be either directly deposited into your Bank Account which is provided to the Insurance Company or a Cheque will be issued to the Insurance Holder. When a Life Insurance Policy is completed the Maturity amount will be credited to the Insurance Holder Bank Account and it is very race case that he could claim it in Cash.

In Tally.ERP 9 Accounting Software the accounting treatment of Life Insurance Maturity amount will be based on the transactions recorded for the Life Insurance Premiums payments recorded in your Company. If the Insurance premium amount is deduced from Capital Account we can record the Maturity amount by crediting the Capital Account.

If we have shown the Life Insurance Premiums under investments instead of deducting from Capital account while paying off the Premiums we have do the following Accounting Voucher Entry in Tally.ERP 9. In order to record the receipt of the Insurance Maturity amount

  1. Open the Receipt Voucher Type from Gateway of Tally.
  2. Debit the Bank Account Ledger from the list.
  3. Here your Insurance Premium account under Investments should be closed so Credit the Insurance Premium Ledger and enter the closing balance of the ledger as on date.
  4. The remaining amount is your Income from Investment so credit the Capital Account with the difference amount.

And accept the screen. When you see the Balance Sheet you can find out that the Insurance Premium Account under Investments Group will be closed automatically and the Bank and Capital Accounts will be increased.   1. Select Accounts Info > Ledgers
  2. From Ledger menu choose Create option under Single Ledger if you are creating only one Account Ledger or if are required to create more than one Account Ledger choose Create option under Multiple Ledgers.
  3. In the Ledger Creation screen enter the name of the Account in the Name field. e.g. Axis Bank Car Loan
  4. And choose Secured Loans groups from the List of Groups in the Under filed.

In Tally.ERP 9 Accounting Software we can record the Bank Payments of a particular Bank Account with high speed with greater accuracy even we have a couple of Bank and Cash Ledger created in the Company. For that first we have to customize the Payment Voucher Type to meet our specific requirement. Here we are customizing the Payment Voucher Type to enable only a particular bank to be used in the Accounting Voucher Creation screen for Payment Voucher by creating a Voucher Class.

By using the Voucher Type alteration screen, we can make this customization for Payment Voucher to set a particular Bank Ledger to be used for making the payments in Tally.ERP 9 Accounting Software. By doing so you are escaped from mistakes like taking a different Ledger Account instead a particular Bank Ledger, while recording Bank Payments. Therefore, it will reduce the mistake done by the Data Entry User while recording the Bank Payments.

After we have defined a Voucher Class for the Payment Voucher Type in Tally.ERP 9 we can record the Bank Payment using that particular Voucher Class in Accounting Voucher Creation screen. So first we have to configure Voucher Class for the Payment Voucher Type.

How to set specific Bank Ledger in Voucher Class for Bank Payments in Tally.ERP 9?

  1. Open the Payment Voucher Type in Alteration mode and create a Class named Cheque Payment.
  2. In the Voucher Type Class screen select Cash-in-Hand group for Exclude these Groups field.
  3. And for Include these Groups field select Bank Accounts and Bank OD A/c groups.
  4. Choose a Bank Ledger from the List of Ledger Accounts for Ledger Name field.

For this method you need to configure Voucher Class for the Voucher in Tally.ERP 9 to set a particular ledger to be used in the Voucher Type. And even we can do this using user defined Voucher Types as well.

Press the Enter Key to come out of the Voucher Type Class screen and accept the change to the Voucher Type. Now you have configured the Payment Voucher Type for making the Bank Payment, where only the selected Bank Ledger will be used while recording the Bank Payments in Tally.ERP 9 using Payment Voucher.

After we have created a Voucher Class for Bank Payments we can easily record the Bank Payments. And every time we need not to select the particular Bank Ledger for payment once we selected the Voucher Class by default the Accounting Voucher Creation screen will take the Bank Ledger which is defined the Payment Voucher Type.

In order to record the Bank Payment using the Cheque Payment Voucher Class, which is defined above.

  1. Get back to the Gateway of Tally screen and select Accounting Vouchers option.
  2. Press F5 Key using your Keyboard and you will find the Change Voucher Type screen.
  3. Select a Voucher Class from Voucher Class List in Class field.
  4. Then you can find the particular Bank Ledger over there and you can not change the Ledger.

Now you can proceed to record Bank Payment related to the particular Bank only and you are escaped to do any mistake relating to wrong ledger selection. And this is how to record only particular Bank Payment
